One Week Down!

Today was the first day of my second week.  So far so good.  We have our first lab tomorrow on asepsis.  We get to practice making and keeping a sterile field.  We also have to practice washing our hands the correct way.  Other than that we have been sitting through a lot of lecture.  The awesome thing is that we are rarely in class the whole day.  Tomorrow I only have to be there for two and a half hours!  I get out of school at 10:30!  How amazing is that?  No job, and I'm not even in school all day.

I will say the reading is killing me.  How am I supposed to read all of the stuff they give us?  It's obnoxious.  I'm going to have to figure out a way to skim and not read.  There's a "how to study" workshop on Friday and I think I will be attending.  I really need some skills if I'm going to get this stuff in my head.

The only thing that sucks is that it seems all of my free time is now gone.  Except for the weekend.  I draw the line when the weekend comes.  S thinks that I need to have my head in the book all the time.

I was able to go out and get some new shoes.  Seeing as I need all white tennis shoes, I wanted to make sure I bought something super comfortable.  I also picked up some seemless, neutral toned underwear so you can't see anything under my WHITE scrubs.  White.  Why are they making us where white scrubs?  That's like asking to be stained!  I tried on some scrubs.  Jeez they are expensive!  There's one more store that reportedly has pretty low prices that I need to check out.  We don't need scrubs until week 10 anyway.

Oh and I almost forgot.  We don't even go to class for all five days.  Usually we have Fridays off unless we want to go to optional open lab.  Read optional.  Then we have select days of the week off.  We have Thursday off this week.  Next week we are only in class Monday and Wednesday.
I'm pretty happy right now.  I'm in nursing school.

First Day!

First off I will tell you that this past weekend we were given online access to all of our documents for the semester.  Can we say overwhelmed?  Yes, yes we can.  I said it multiple times.

Anyway, I had my first day of school.  It actually wasn't too interesting.  It was orientation and so I had already heard most of it in our previous orientation.  We talked a lot about our schedules and what we need to do for class.  It was fun to see the faces that I'll be in class with for the next four semesters.  Some familiar and some unknown.  I hope I'm able to make some connections, because it is seriously so difficult to make friends when you are out of high school, and when you don't live by any of your old high school friends.

Tomorrow the real work begins.  I have quite a bit of reading to do tonight to prepare for the real "first day".  So now I will leave to do that.

It also doesn't help that I woke up with a head cold this morning.  Great.

Books!

Books have been purchased!  Grand total so far: $1234. Ouch!  I'm so ready for this to begin. Only 9 more days! We don't have access to our course documents yet, Sunday night I believe.  I want to be prepared, I want to have my backpack packed with my new books and fresh paper and new pens.  I want my finalized syllabus and calendar.  It's so close I can almost taste it.  One more week of work, and one last weekend to relax before school starts. I still can't believe I'm starting nursing school, that I got in.  So soon, so soon!

Goodbye 2011

I read alot of blogs.  Majority of these blogs have been reminiscent of 2011, and what they hope 2012 will bring.  Well this is my reminiscent, or rather, see ya 2011.

I think 2011 was such a boring year.  Stuck at a job that didn't fit me, stuck in school feeling like I haven't progressed at all.  Well 2012 is going to be different.  I will actually be working toward something that I want to do!  To this day I still can't believe that I got into nursing school and it starts in 15 days!

I also have been given the ok that we can go on a honeymoon!  'Bout time.  So hopefully next winter I will be wrapping up a wonderful year of having learned new things, making it halfway through the nursing program, saying goodbye to 2012, all while relaxing somewhere warm(hopefully on a boat in the Caribbean).

Welcome 2012, it's so good to see you!

Happy New Year!

First post on the first of the year!  Starting from day one it seems.  I am so excited for the first day of school.  I'm still in the process of buying books.  I haven't even looked at scrubs yet, but I don't need those until week 10.  So far I have been lucky and have bought 8 books for around $250.  Looks like a lot of money, but if I would have bought new, and from the actual school bookstore, it would have been more.  Rip.Off.  Unfortunately there are certain things that can only be bought at the school bookstore, and it figures they would be the most expensive!

Work will be ending soon, and then S and I will have to buckle down.  We'll be fine, I have no doubt.

I just can't believe I'm actually starting nursing school!  Please stay tuned for some great times, because I'm sure they will be awesome!
